ROMAN FOOT SOLDIERS - STREETS WITHOUT SIGNS

Streets Without Signs sendiri bercerita mengenai suatu perjalanan tanpa tujuan pasti, berani mengambil pilihan untuk kehilangan arah.

BRNDLS (The Brandals)

BAYU RISA

Bayu Risa was born as Bayu Purwadi Risakotta in Depok, October 6, 1983. He already shown his interest in music at the early age of 10 when he joined a vocal group in an Indonesian cultural exchange program. He traveled to Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei Darusalam, Thailand, and the United States to sing Indonesian songs and introduced local culture to residents in those countries.

When he was in high school, Bayu Risa continued developing his musical talent by actively performing in cafes and and school shows .After graduated, Bayu went to Bandung to join a band called Ever Nine. In 2005 his musical career was hampered by a long sickness that forced him to quit music for awhile. However, quickly after he recovered, he was asked to join PASTO and with this band he made his name in the Indonesian music scene. In 2007, PASTO released their debut album that was produced
by Glenn Fredly under Rame-Rame People Records and distributed by RPM. Despite the band's increasing fame, Bayu Risa decided to leave the band in 2008.

With hard determination and passion to succeed on his own, in 2009 Bayu Risa released his first single “Inner Beauty” which he wrote himself. When producing his first single, Bayu Risa was helped by several friends, one of them is famous arranger David “Tities” Salanggamo that mixed and arranged the “Inner Beauty” single.

Unlike most singers, he prefers to release a single before releasing an album. He said, “it’s not about how many songs you can compose but it’s about heart and feeling that you put inside in your music”

Currently, Bayu Risa is preparing to release his debut solo record under Sinjitos Records. The yet-to-be titled album will be released in October 2010.

MORFEM

(The smallest linguistic unit within a word that can carry a meaning, such as "un-", "break", and "-able" in the word "unbreakable")

Morfem was formed on July 17th, 2009 in Jakarta. “Morfem” is a term that is often found in linguistic studies, one that bedazzled Jimi while learning bahasa in middle school. An interesting term to be adapted as a band name. The word “morfem” also feature an interesting combination of letters that also serve aesthetical purpose from a graphic-design standpoint.

Morfem is a melting-pot of a few band members from many different genres. Jimi Multhazam (vocals) is the frontman to the phenomenal new wave band, The Upstairs. Pandu Fathoni (guitars) is the guitarist of The Porno, a post-punk band that features dark and gloomy sounds. Bramasta Juan Sasongko (bass) is also the bassist of JARB, an alternative/stoner-rock with a more modern sounds and arrangements. Freddie Alexander Warnerin (drums), who also plays drums on the hardcore band, Nervous breakdown is used to playing in faster tempo.

The four of them teamed-up in Morfem to make a different kind of music from each of their respective bands. Morfem produce a light and easy listening music with straightforward narrative-descriptive lyrics with everyday theme (according to Soleh Solihun, Rolling Stone Indonesia). Wrapped with friendly, yet noisy guitar sounds, zig-zagging bassline encouraging anyone who listen to dance with the humble drumming.

February 11th 2010 Morfem released their first single, “Gadis Suku Pedalaman” free to download in the internet. Hundreds of downloads are recorded daily of this single which are mixed by Joseph Saryuf (Sinjitos/Santa Monica). This single marks Morfem’s first step to accelerate in Indonesia’s homogenic music scene.

A new chapter of Indonesian music… Begins!

THE PORNO

The Porno is a post-punk band formed in Pondok Gede, Indonesia in 2004. The most distinctive feature of the band is its late 70's post-punk constant, heart-thumping rhythm which built around noisy and dissonant walls of distortion. The band got its name from Interpol’s NYC lyrics; “…subway she is a porno, pavements they are a mess…”

DENIAL

Denial were possibly the most out-bursting collective arose in Jakarta in recent years. They are the latest familiar sound you long to hear. These Indonesian locals took their tentative steps in 2004 and become rather sure of what they are delivering today. Most bands stayed over romantic, illogically robotics, or even provoking loads of anger. This pack of talents releases it, not creating it. That is what makes them distinct from other artists: their angst-releasing music.
Initially, Denial was a four piece band. Now, they have more heads to simply bear more noise onto their projection of art. Denial are Toni (Vocal,Guitar), Benedict Pardede (Guitar), Gobe (Drums), Inezs Maheswari (Tambourine), Resi (Bass), and Ainjia Paat (Violin). The six of them then gave birth to such thrilling sound. Their modus operandi is at our very eyes: they have enough awareness about banalities of everyday life in the city, they gather up the remaining of our issues, and then formed numbers of loud liberating songs out of it. They genuinely live for and in the music.
This noise rock outfit captured multitude of musicians throughout particular eras in their performance. You might find it instantly from what they wear: leather jackets, boots, even their attitudes. But, it would not be a matter of concern once they hit the stage. All things aside, what you will hear, see, and feel would not be the appearance, but the splendorous feedbacks, robust layers of instruments, and soul-shivering vocal. The music is so strong, you will leave the brutal reality and then strikes back with euphoric spirit. They will release their debut album on April 2010.

ROMAN FOOT SOLDIERS

Like their hometown Jakarta, Roman Foot Soldiers is a blend of many eccentric musical characters. Such contrasts however didn’t produce a clash of creativity, but it did inspire the group to pursue a sound unique enough to satisfy all band members’ appetite.
As for the name of the band, it represents both their fascination for epic war films and solidarity. Six distinct pieces brought together by a common cause: a passion for music.
